| Medical Illustration and Animation
The department’s primary function is to illustrate projects for the physicians and staff, using a wide array of mediums and software to complete the final product. The department also provides illustration support to over 300 Hughston Society members and has created illustrations for three major medical textbooks.
Illustrations can be produced in pen and ink, grayscale tonal drawings, digital color illustrations or other traditional and digital means. Each year, the department produces countless numbers of digital presentations; illustrates more than 40 chapters and manuscripts; creates images and directs layout for an 8-page quarterly patient education newsletter, the Hughston Health Alert; and creates images for an on-going digital image archive, several medical-legal defense exhibits, and advertisements for The Hughston Clinic.
Another specialty of the department is animation, both 2D and 3D. The department’s staff is capable of creating animations for both educational and promotional purposes. The animations produced in-house have been used in nationally recognized DVDs; animations are used by the doctors to supplement their lectures and presentations; and patient-education animations are presented in-house on flat-screen panels in the clinic waiting rooms. The department is outfitted with a highly sophisticated 3D modeling and animation program and the computer power necessary to create, render, and produce the final animation sequence.
