The Hughston Sports Medicine Fellowship
The Hughston Sports Medicine Fellowship, founded by Dr. Hughston in 1960, is a one-year, postdoctoral educational program allowing physicians who have completed their formal medical training to increase their exposure to orthopaedic sports medicine. Since its inception, more than 250 fellows have completed the program. The program has a firm foundation in basic science, anatomy, physical diagnosis, imaging interpretation, deductive reasoning and surgical indications, refinement of surgical technical skill, comprehensive rehabilitation protocols, and defining the role of the sports medicine specialist in their interface with the athletic program. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredits The Hughston Sports Medicine Fellowship. The educational goals are accomplished through a program structured in the following areas:

Major sporting event medical directorships
Independent research
National postgraduate meeting participation
Educational conference curriculum
Teaching (ATC Fellowship)
Certification programs (ACLS-HAH, ATLS-ACS)
