From FDA-regulated clinical trials, to retrospective long-term follow-up studies, to basic science experiments in a laboratory setting, The Hughston Foundation’s Research Department supports all research endeavors on the Hughston campus. Industry sponsors have come to rely on the thorough and professional work carried out by Hughston researchers. The investigators and staff are highly sought after to participate in the latest orthopaedic clinical trials.

Thanks to Dr. Hughston’s legacy of meticulously recorded data and patient indexing, we have the resources to perform long-term follow-up studies. In these studies, researchers examine the outcomes of surgical procedures and treatments that were done many years ago to determine how they stand the test of time.

All research endeavors are reviewed and monitored by the Hughston Sports Medicine Center Institutional Review Board (IRB). The Hughston IRB meets the federal regulations set forth by the FDA; it is responsible for monitoring and reviewing all research on the Hughston campus that involves human subjects. The IRB ensures the patient’s rights and welfare are protected and all HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) requirements are met.
