Videoconferences
Videoconferencing capabilities broaden the audience and teacher base by allowing transmission of educational sessions to and from remote sites all over the country and to anywhere in the world.

Recently, John I. Waldrop, MD, performed two live surgeries in Rio de Janeiro. Although he would have surely enjoyed a trip to Rio, he actually performed the surgeries at the Hughston Orthopedic Hospital and through the magic of the Foundation’s 512k ISDN Teleconferencing system it was broadcast live to Rio.

The live surgeries ( EOS unicompartmental knee replacement and an AVON patellofemoral joint replacement) were a part of the 1 st International Stryker Symposium On Knee and Hip Surgery held at the Hotel Sheraton Barra in Rio de Janeiro, June 10 and 11 th. The program allowed participants in Rio to view the surgery and ask questions of Dr. Waldrop in real time while the surgery was underway.

Physician’s attending the symposium had this to say to Dr. Waldrop in a message of thanks: We are happy to let you know that the live surgeries you performed for the 1st International Stryker Symposium in Rio were a huge success. They have met all the expectations for members of the Organizing Committee as well as for the entire audience. Actually, they were the backbone of the meeting.
