The Medical Writing Department of The Hughston Foundation exists primarily to support the writing efforts of the physicians and allied health-care professionals associated with The Hughston Clinic. The department has three medical editor/writers whose job is to edit scientific manuscripts for authors submitting to medical journals and textbooks and to publications for the general public. The Section of Scientific Publications within the department provides the Hughston staff with professional scientific editorial services for manuscripts, journal articles, book chapters, review articles, monographs, case reports, abstracts, book reviews, editorials, poster sessions, slides, presentations, galley reading, and grants.
For the past twenty years, the staff has edited, written, and published a quarterly patient-education newsletter, The Hughston Health Alert, which focuses on prevention and treatment of orthopaedic and sports-related illness and injuries. The department also houses and provides editorial services for the Journal of Athletic Training, the official publication of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Other services provided by the staff include creating patient-education brochures and teaching aids.
